The Oster® A6 clipper is a 3 speed, heavy duty, detachable bade clipper. The lowest speed produces the least amount of heat and therefore should be used anytime you are grooming close to the animal’s skin. The 2nd and 3rd speeds are used for general clipping. Additionally, the 3rd and highest speed should be used for thick or heavily matted coats. Why do blades get hot? The Oster A6 detachable blade set includes an upper cutter and a lower blade. The upper cutter does the moving and cuts the hair. This movement causes friction that can produce heat. Blade heat is a function of how fast the motor is running combined with how long it is running for. When the clipper is used on the highest speed (3rd) for prolonged periods of time, it is possible for the blade to heat up. What can I do to keep my blades cooler? First of all, inspect the blade periodically throughout the grooming process at 10 minute intervals. If the blade feels like it is starting to heat up, place a few drops of Oster® Blade Lube™ on the blade rails. This will cool the blade down without leaving an oily residue on the dog’s coat.
